Throughout the Centuries, the British have fought several epic Battles. One such Battle was the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, fought close to the town of Musselbugh, just east of Edinburgh, in 1547.
English King Henry VIII had been busy with more than beheading Wives during his reign in England, which came to an end in January 1547 when he died. Although the primary focus had been directed at mainland Europe, securing the borders with the Kingdom of Scotland in the north has been high on his agenda as well. King Henry, well-versed in using marriage as a political tool, had hoped to achieve a political union with Scotland, by marrying his son, Edward, to the young Mary, Queen of Scots.
There was a strong opposition in Scotland towards the proposed union, hence the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh also became known as Rough Wooing.
