Inspector Mark Burgess : Operations : Central Police Region

The Queensland Police Service is concerned about the increase in serious Road Crashes involving Motorcycles in Central Q.L.D.

In 2017 less than 5% of Registered Vehicles in Central Queensland are Motorcycles, yet they are involved in 17% of Road Crashes in the Region, resulting in a Fatality or Hospitalisation.

We recognise that Motorcycles are one of our most vulnerable Road Users, by making this information available to all Motorcycle Riders throughout Queensland and Australia to remind them to make safe decisions and stay safe on the Road. Our goal is for all Road Users including Motorcyclists is to arrive at their destination safely, every time!.

Motorcycle Safety Check List

Stick to a Safe Speed and Ride to the Conditions.
Take Regular Breaks to avoid Fatigue.
Don't Ride under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.
Ride sensibly, without distraction and within the Law.
Develop and Know your Skill Level and Don't take Risks.
Wear a Helmut and Personal Protective Gear - It will Protect you and make you more Visible to other Road Users.
Plan your Trip and be considerate of other Road Users.

Please take note of the Motorcycle Safety Check list every time you decide to ride your Motorcycle. It may well save you Life!.

Remembering the previous Accidents can heighten your awareness on the Road.

I have been riding Motorcycles for just over 40 years and have accumulated a considerable amount of experience in that time. But on the same token, having a lot of experience doesn't necessarily make you safer on the Road.

Adhering to the Guide Lines above each time you ride your Motorcycle can help you to get to your destination safely.

As for my Motorcycle Accident in 1999. I believe any Accident is a bad Accident. It is the degree of severity in each Accident that can make it a lot worse. Especially if it's a Physical Disability or a Fatality.

Luckily for me, I was able to walk away from the Accident 1999 at the Intersection of Witred and Bunda street heading East on Princess St Bundaberg with minimal Physical Injuries.

But by remembering Previous Accidents your attention to Motorcycle Riding and Road Conditions can always help you maintain a constant state of awareness and by learning from past experiences to help you arrive at you destination safely every time.
